Q+A

General Event:

1. Clarification:
Tickets to the VIP Bloc Party can NOT be purchased this year. Only Artist, Garment Labels, and Underwriters are invited to this exclusive event.
2. Ticket prices?
Tickets go on sale through Ticketmaster for $30+convenience fees for general admission. Runway seats are only provided for Underwriters of the event.
3. Will there be limited number of tickets sold?
Limitations may apply to the first floor capacity of Verizon Wireless Theater.
4. Do Artists have a seat?
Artists are provided up to 5 general admission tickets for the team and 1 general admission ticket for the model – all members will have access to the VIP Bloc Party before the show. (2) backstage passes + model will have access backstage. Artists will only have a seat if they are given a pass by underwriters of the event.
5. Who gets a “sketch book”?
Not confirmed right now, but we are still attempting to provide the sketchbooks for the Artist, Underwriters, and Garment Labels. We are also attempting to provide a “program” – perhaps a condensed “sketchbook” for general admission.
6. How will accessibility issues be handled this year?
General admission will have standing room and non-reserved bar height seating around the runway. We are in the process of providing handicap areas for general admission – which should be requested on Ticketmaster when purchasing your ticket.
7. What happens after the fashion show before the awards?
This year there will be a 15min intermission. We have a DJ that will be spinning for us while everyone goes to refresh their drinks!
8. Will there be food and drinks?
Yes, food and drinks will be provided at the VIP Bloc Party. Concession stands will also be open for General Admission.
9. Is PR11 going to auction off the dresses?
We have attempted to try to incorporate a live auction into the event, but decided to postpone this effort until we get more knowledge on the best way to auction off these garments. We would suggest Artists’ to keep their garment intact in case we request to use the garments in another IIDA event.
10. How are hard and soft good Garment Labels going to be recognized?
We are working on incorporating the garment label’s logo into the set design as each model walks down the runway.

Construction + Materials:

1. Clarification: [40%] of material from the soft good Garment Label + [40%] of material from the hard good Garment Label + [20%] of material selected by the Artists = Total garment composition.

2. Is it 40% of quantity or of material value?
It is 40% of quantity within the garment.
3. For constructing the garment, can a pattern be used?
Yes, using a pattern or a “shell” is acceptable. It is considered an item that should be included in the total budget.
4. Can a soft material provided by the hard good Garment Label be used?
A soft material alone from the hard good Garment Label (or vice versa) will not be considered part of the 40% material used within the garment. However, if it is a soft material used in conjunction with the hard good product of the hard good Garment Label, this will be acceptable.
5. Can accessories be included within the “garment” and a part of either of the 40%?
Yes, accessories are included within the 40%.
6. Because of this year’s design challenge, are the garment’s intended to be a costume or a couture gown in accordance to the genre category?
This year’s theme is a fusion of music, design, + fashion. The garment can be as literal or as imaginative as the Artist’s relate to their design concept.
7. Is it acceptable to remove part of garment?
Yes, it is acceptable. No BIKINIS!!! It is encouraged that all Artist + Models represent themselves tastefully as they represent their firm, IIDA, and the design community of Houston.

8. Clarification: [$300.00] of material from the soft good Garment Label + [$300.00] of material from the hard good Garment Label + [$150.00] from the Artists used for fasteners, thread, make-up, etc. = [$750.00] Total

9. What do Artists’ do about donated services or product?
If services are free, please itemize what services were provided and not included within the $750.00 total on the final budget. The final budget is requested for “The Demo”
10. Can Garment Labels donate items to team, ie: wigs, etc?
No, this is not allowed. Garment Label’s are ONLY to provide materials from the manufacturer’s line for the completion of the Artist’s garment.

"The Demo" Portfolio Submission:

1. The (2) song selections provided to the producers… how does it get remixed?
It is a two song MAXIMUM that is allowed to be provided by the Artist – part of “The Demo” that is due 04.20.11. The producers will work with the DJ to remix your selected song for the model’s walk down the runway. Again, producers have final approval.
2. Do the Artists submit the actual track or just provide the song name?
The Artists are to provide the actual tracks on the blank CD provided at the CD Release Party.
3. On music, can the Artist provide a remix?
Yes, Artists can provide their own remix; however the producers have final approval.

Judging Criteria:

1. How will the Crowd Favorite award be judged?
There will be a cash voting box paired with “the demo” posters provided by the Artist. Cash voting will be collected and closed prior to the Remix Fashion Show.
2. Will the Artists’ find out how many points are given for bonuses?
No, the matrix will not be revealed to the Artists. The producer’s do not want the matrix to dictate the design of the garment.

Sound Check + Dress Rehearsal:

1. Clarification: On 04.27.11 Sound Check – the garment MUST be done. The team model must be there to model the garment. A team representative will also be allowed in the judging room to answer questions from the judges.

2. For the Sound Check, do hair and makeup have to be done?
It is not a requirement, but if the Artists’ would like to use this time to test hair and makeup for the final day – this would be the perfect opportunity.
3. Rehearsal, when is that?
Dress Rehearsal is 4pm the day of the event (05.05.11). Artist will receive a download of information at the Sound Check: garment judging, but the full dress-rehearsal is required for all models to practice the lineup.
4. How much time does the model have to walk down the runway?
It is a longer runway this year, approximately 40′ long. The producers are not enforcing a time limit, but assume the model will have approximately 45 seconds.
5. Is production staff willing to work with the Artist on stage lighting and/or props?
No, we will not be able to accommodate specific lighting colors with each Artist. Props are also not allowed this year.
6. Will the Artists have a bigger dressing room facility?
Yes, backstage is larger but honestly a bit more complicated. Instead of having direct access to your dressing room, the models will need to be ready to be on stage 15-20min. before the show starts and be stage left.
7. At the dress rehearsal, can the model wear the garment?
Yes, but the model must not wear their garment to the VIP Bloc Party.
