Product Runway 2013 is featuring a whimsical look at fashion.The design teams are volunteers from Houston’s interior design firms and architecture firms and design students. Each team will design and construct a couture garment using materials provided by their garment labels (industry partners) and compete in one of Houston’s premier fashion shows. At the Sneak Preview, the design teams will be paired with their garment label and this year’s design challenge.
Design teams will be randomly paired with one hard goods and one soft goods garment label. The final garment must contain at least 80% of product provided by both garment labels. Design teams are not limited to certain materials within the label’s line, but must comply with a budget of $350.00 net for materials from each label. Design teams are strongly encouraged to consider the cost burden and time requirements when requesting materials. The design teams can provide an additional $150.00 to spend on supplemental materials: closures, accessories, thread, etc. All garments must be completed by the design team; no outsourcing is allowed. All garments must be complete by 04.11.2013 and no further alterations will be scored.
Design teams will consist of a maximum of 5 participants actively or recently employed by an architecture or interior design firm or university. Models, who may be an additional member, must be a member of the team’s design firm or school. Attendance at the Sneak Preview, Q&A, Fashion 101, Garment Judging, Rehearsal and Fashion Show are required for all models and team leaders. Team Portraits for PR13 Program to be taken at Sneak Preview so attendance is strongly encouraged. Design teams and garment labels will be allowed to participate on a first come first serve basis. Student teams will be limited to (5) teams. Further questions or comments may be addressed at the Q+A and Fashion 101, two exclusive events for PR13 teams and garment labels. If a design team can no longer participate, please notify the producers by 03.01.2013. If the design team forfeits after this date, the team may be subject to a monetary fine based on materials purchased.
On site individual hair + make-up artists will be available for each team the day of the event with an advance consultation available with stylist from Visible Changes available at the Fashion 101 event. Design teams are allowed to provide (2) song choices for the fashion show that support the team’s design challenge. Producers will have final approval. Creativity and showmanship is encouraged, however additional persons and / or props present on the runway during the event must be disclosed and approved by the producers in advance.
