The Challenge

Product Runway 2012 is featuring an international look at fashion. The design teams are volunteers from Houston’s interior design and architecture firms, as well as design students. Each team will design and construct a couture garment using materials provided by their garment labels, (Industry Partners), and will compete in a runway showdown. At the Travel Agency Event, the design teams will be paired with their garment label and this year’s design challenge.

Construction + Materials

Design teams will be randomly paired with one hard goods and one soft good garment label. The final garment most contain at least 80% of product provided by both garment labels. Design teams are not limited to certain materials within the label’s line, but must comply with a budget of $350.00 net of materials from each label. Design firms are strongly encouraged to consider the cost burden and time requirements when requesting materials. The design teams can provide an additional $150.00 to spend on supplemental materials: closures, accessories, thread, etc. All garments must be completed by the design team; no outsourcing is allowed. All garments must be complete by 05.02.2012 and no further alterations will be scored.

Team Rules

Design teams will consist of a maximum of 5 participants actively or recently employed by an architecture/interior design firm or university. Models, who may be an additional member, must be a member of the team’s design firm or school. Attendance at the garment judging, rehearsal and fashion show are required for all models and team members. Point deductions will be taken from the overall score if a design team is not appropriately represented. Design teams and garment labels will be allowed to participate on a first come first serve basis. Student teams will be limited to (3) teams. Further questions/comments may be addressed at the Trip Confirmation: Q+A session – an exclusive event for PR12 teams and garment labels. If a design team can no longer participate, please notify the producers by 03.01.2012. If the design team forfeits after this date, the team may be subject to a monetary fine based on materials purchased.
